A World that is Tishé

Featured Warm Glass Artist's Statement

Ida

My vision foretold a time when everyone would see the world through the shapes and contours of the beauty that is glass. There is a soft, inviting depth in glass that draws you into its curvatures and crevices. Yet too a strength that is undeniably powerful and strong. This is my world.

I've been asked what is the word that is Tishé? (pronounced "ty-shé"). This subtle combination of letters is the connection I feel between what seems impossible and what is inevitable. Each piece of Tishé Art Glass is symbolic of the risks we take every minute of our lives. Is it possible to create a moment in time where for one brief second the world is perfection? Until we open the kiln and view our liquid gold, we only have what is to come, not knowing if what we have created will shape our future or cast us into a memory of days gone by when we knew all was still possible.

I think of my sisters, Tobi and Sherry. My name is Ida. Each piece of Tishé glass I create is a tribute to the mystery of our lives, both days passed and days to come. My family is my inspiration. Although Sherry is no longer here in this physical world, I see her love for life and spirit of adventure as she touches my heart and tells me to follow my own dream. Tobi has never been my "little sister". Her dynamic drive and vision is the influence that motivates me to wake up each morning before the break of dawn, trumble down into the studio and spend hours standing at my workbench invisioning and creating a piece of Tishé Art Glass that one day would warm the mantle, complete a table, or give substance to a flower that it envelopes.

Each day we are reaching for something unknown. Each day I find my dream in a world that is Tishé - Tobi, Ida, Shérry.
